The overall goal of the Student City brand, since its inception in 2003 has been to: Position Palmerston North as students’ preferred destination for tertiary study.
Some of its many successes include the provision of free public transport for Massey and UCOL staff and students and Student City events such as Student City Arts and Cultural Awards.
The refreshed Student City brand was launched in 2011 and is based around the concept of Student City as a team.
This concept recognises the value of students, but also encompasses businesses and members of the wider Palmerston North community, whose support is integral in attracting, nurturing and maintaining the city’s student population.
Businesses are encouraged to contact Student City coordinators with details of their student discounts so these may be listed for free on the Student City website.

If you qualify for a free post/advert your posts submitted through this form will be posted at no cost and to a well targeted group of students. Please be aware that we can’t spell check every post.
Each day up to 4.000 Palmerston North students are visiting the Student City website. Your offers should relate to student interests and we reserve the right to reject offers and advertisements that we think do not align to the goals and vision of Student City and its stake holders.
There are three ways to advertise with us.
Free (non profit) posts will actually create a whole little page for you and display on the front page as below. So feel free to include active links and so on when you create your post/advert. You will tell us what the students that could be interested in this post potentially like and we will show it to this group only. How? Our database knows what what many of the students like so we can display targeted content to them. If a visitor that we have not seen before (like yourself) visits the website we will display all posts to him/her.
Sample: A band is looking for a drummer. We can post this add exclusively to all students that are drummers. These banners can contain an image, a video or a soundcloud jam!
Our banners are located at strategic locations to give you advert a powerful exposure. Depending on who you want to reach we will give you a 360 degree consultation on how you can achieve your goals in the best way. Get in touch today and find out how powerful our advertising is for you.
Student City reserves the right to reject content or entire posts when not beneficial to the student population or in conflict with the goals of Student City or its stake holders.
We look forward to hearing from you! Your Student City Team.
Private training establishments (PTEs) are the secret heroes of the education sector. They are private organisations quietly training young men and women for practical, fulfilling careers, raising them to the exacting standards set by industry.”You get a double guarantee [with PTE training],” says Mara Marketing CEO Graham Mair. “Not only must these organisations meet standards set by the government, but also the expectations of industry”, says Mr Mair.
PTEs took off in the 90s, although some, like the Hairdressing College, have been around in since the 1960s.
“There’s a commitment to the students’ individual successes,” says Palmerston North School of Design CEO Mike Saywell, highlighting the PTE style of smaller classes, more one-on-one time, and a more personalised education.
All of the region’s PTEs are locally owned and operated. They’ve had the time to build links with industry, which means there are more jobs for graduates, more easily found.
There are a galaxy of options available and all courses are approved by NZQA. And if you’ve left school with no qualifications, most courses are fully government-funded – no fees!
If you feel like a round peg in a square hole and are itching to get your hands on something practical, checkout some of Manawatu’s PTEs and see what’s available. There are a lot of people willing you to succeed, and they’re only too happy to help you.

Our international students live on campus in one of IPC’s 10 halls of residence, where they are provided with a safe and supportive “home away from home”. Local students are also encouraged to live on campus and make the most of IPC’s unique environment, which is ideal for study, language learning and fun!
IPC accommodation includes all meals and access to facilities on campus such as the gym, recreation centre, library, wireless internet and computer suite. As there’s always something going on, on campus or in the Palmerston North community, our students enjoy an active student lifestyle.
