Studying in Palmerston North

Nau Mai Haere Mai ki Aotearoa, Nau Mai Haere Mai ki Te Papaioea.

Welcome to New Zealand and welcome to Palmerston North.Students

There’s no doubt about it, Palmy is a young person’s city. Around 40 percent of our population is studying – be it full or part-time, and a third of our population is aged between 15 and 30.

We’re pretty keen on our students. We even let them ride the bus for free. Plus we have an energetic Student City team dedicated to showing students a good time.

Rent’s well below your average New Zealand education city, which is great news for your back pocket. Yay for affordable living!

But, if you do need to top up the piggy bank, we’ve got plenty of part-time/casual work available thanks to an abundance of cafes, restaurants, bars and retailers. Check out our home page to see what’s on offer.

Located in the lower half of the North Island, we’re central to all parts of the country. Wellington’s just a couple of hours drive away and we’re pretty close to the Central Plateau ski fields, Lake Taupo and Hawkes Bay as well. Our airport will fly you almost anywhere in NZ, but we reckon the best place to be is right here.

We’re surrounded by awesome scenery, from the mighty Manawatu River to the majestic Tararua Ranges and the coastal plains of Himitangi. There are plenty of places to explore in the Manawatu and lots of new people to meet. Take a look at our range of clubs and societies, you’re bound to find something you like.

Palmy has all the benefits of big city life with none of the drawbacks. We’re a safe city and our weather’s reasonable. There’s always something going on around here and there’s no better place to be a student. Check out our Events, Things to do and the Bars, Clubs & Dining.
